Special education from a Freirean perspective: an inclusive experience report

Abstract

Reflecting on pedagogical practice is part of the nature of the teaching and learning process. Thus, approaching the Freirian conception of special education as one of the possible paths from the perspective of democratization and humanization configures the intention of this report of a quantitative-qualitative nature and descriptive objective. To this end, the source of analysis is the excerpt of a pedagogical work carried out from August to October 2023 in the context of the special education modality - the area of ​​intellectual disability associated or not with other disabilities, bringing some theoretical and practical examples that enable new and better insights. It is argued that the Freirean conception of specialized educational services can surprise and encourage new forms of actions and reflections and can contribute to a process based on respect for the human dignity that constitutes diversity. It is concluded that, given the long and unfinished formative path that involves the teaching and learning process, the introduction of Paulo Freire's contributions to pedagogical work with children and adolescents becomes one of the possible paths towards democratization and humanization in relationships social aspects of public basic education, a type of special education.
